Dr. Hamid Slimi
The Board is a non-profit, self-regulatory, voluntary body engaged in the promotion of Islamic Finance in North America.
Dr. Hamid Slimi is an academic scholar, spiritual leader, teacher, and community developer. He is the current chairman and senior lecturer of the Canadian Centre for Deen Studies (a Muslim Theological Seminary for educating and training future Muslim chaplains) and the Resident Scholar, Imam, and Founder of Sayeda Khadija Centre in Mississauga, Ontario. He is also a board member of the Islamic Finance Advisory Board. He has served as an educator, Imam, and consultant in Canada since 1997 with different religious and educational institutions. Dr. Slimi is also the Founder and President of Faith of Life Network, a charitable organization focused on building bridges with other faiths for peace and harmony by conducting spiritual and educational programs.
Dr. Slimi is the former Chairman of the Canadian Council of Imams (from 2006-2013), a lecturer at the Islamic Institute of Toronto (from 2005 to 2015), a consultant on national and international issues related to religion and spirituality, Islam and Islamic Law, religious dialogue and social issues, a Board member of different Interfaith and community bodies, a TV Producer of Faith of Life TV Shows, videos and documentaries, and the CEO of a Management and Marketing Solutions business in Ontario.
Dr. Slimi’s academic specialty is in Islamic studies and Law, as well as Comparative World Religions and Anthropology. In addition to the traditional degrees known as Ijazah, he holds two Master’s degrees with Honors in both disciplines from Morocco and the U.S., and a PhD in Islamic Law from the U.K. From 2009 to 2018, Georgetown University featured Dr. Slimi as one of the 500 Most Influential Muslims in the world for his community development, spiritual leadership, and interfaith work.
Dr. Slimi is multilingual in Arabic, French, and English. Both his Ijazah and graduate degrees are in Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) and Usul-ul-Fiqh (fundamentals of jurisprudence). He has conducted extensive research in Jurisprudential Rules, the Science of Maqasid (Objectives of Law), and al-Fiqh al-Muqaaran (Comparative Jurisprudence) in the Four Madhabs.
Dr. Slimi has represented the Muslim community at many multi-faith councils and continues to be part of interfaith dialogue. He has written books and articles in Arabic and English, especially in Usul-al-Fiqh and Muslim Outreach. Among his written works are his latest book, “Modern Day Terrorism: An Examination of the Islamic Texts and Values,” and his most popular one, “Terrorism: An Islamic Perspective,” published in 2000. To date, Dr. Slimi has hosted and produced over 200 TV shows, over 600 videos, and hundreds of CDs on different subjects related to faith and life matters.
Over the last 25 years, Dr. Slimi has taught various courses in different sciences of Islam in Muslim institutions, schools, seminaries, colleges and universities. He is currently a senior lecturer and resident scholar of the Canadian Centre for Deen Studies as well as a visiting professor at universities in Indonesia and Turkey.
