Dr. Mohammad Iqbal Masood Al-Nadvi
The Board is a non-profit, self-regulatory, voluntary body engaged in the promotion of Islamic Finance in North America.
Dr. Al-Nadvi is a well-known Muslim scholar in Canada, one of the select few with the authority to issue an Islamic legal ruling (fatwa). He is currently the Imam (chaplain) and Director of Religious Affairs at Al-Falah Islamic Centre in Oakville, Ontario. He also serves as Chairman of the Islamic Finance Advisory Board, Chairman of the Canadian Council of Imams, and the head of Fiqh Majlis (council of jurisprudence) of Canada. Dr. Al-Nadvi also serves on the advisory board of several organizations, including the Canadian Muslim Chaplain Organization (CMCO). In 2025, he was awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal by the Governor General of Canada for his services to the community.
Dr. Al-Nadvi holds a Ph.D. in Islamic Shariah (law), with specialization in Fiqh (jurisprudence). He taught Shariah and Fiqh at King Saud University, Saudi Arabia, for six years and addressed various subjects such as Usool Al-Fiqh (principles of jurisprudence), Islamic Culture, Islamic Political Thought, Islamic Movements, and Fiqh of Organization. He has also memorized the whole Qur’an.
Dr. Al-Nadvi obtained his Oriental Degree in Islamic studies from Nadwa-tul-Ulama, Lucknow, India. Later, he completed his Bachelor’s from Bhopal University, majoring in Arabic, Urdu, Hindi, English, and political science.
After moving to Saudi Arabia, he obtained his Shariah license from Islamic University, Medina, Saudi Arabia, and his Master’s in Islamic law from Ummal Qura University, Makkah, Saudi Arabia. He obtained his Ph.D. from the same university, after which he moved to a teaching position in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. After arriving in Canada in 1998, he has been working in various positions within the Muslim and interfaith communities.
