Ms. Qazi has a Master’s in Business from the Institute of Business Administration, Karachi University, Pakistan, and another Master’s in Development Economics from Manchester University in the U.K. She is a seasoned banker with over 30 years of experience in corporate finance, risk management, and financial systems development.

She started her career in corporate finance at Emirates Bank, later moving to Credit Agricole Indosuez, where she worked at the Karachi and Bangkok branches. Subsequently, she joined Faysal Islamic Bank as a senior vice president in Risk Management, where she managed a portfolio of US $800 million, managing the credit risk of 11 branches.

After arriving in Canada in 1999, she worked as Financial Administrator for the Nobel Peace Laureate Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders), setting up financial systems, reporting directly to the CEO, and providing financial training to staff in four branches. After three years with MSF, she took a sabbatical to study theology, Shariah law, and Arabic.

Her background in finance led to an interest in Islamic finance, and she has been working as a liaison with the Islamic Finance Advisory Board since its inception in 2008. She combines banking, finance, administration, and management experience across corporate and non-profit sectors, and is involved in many community-based, outreach, and advocacy projects. She has lived and worked in the U.K., Thailand, Pakistan, Canada, and the U.S.
